NIH Guidelines

National Institutes of Health (NIH) funds both research and training, using funds allocated by Congress. This website has links to grants and funding opportunities, including applications, grants policy, NIH guide and award data.

T Series: The Training or "T Series" was established to provide predoctoral, postdoctoral and short-term research training experiences, as well as to support undergraduate student training in academic research.

K Series: The Career Development Program or "K series""K Series" provides a wide array of funding opportunities and was created to help outstanding scientists advance their careers and contribute to the knowledge of their fields. Among their specific objectives, K awards support mentored research, facilitate stability of support to exceptional scientists and allow researchers to improve curricula in select fields. The series also offers special opportunities for training in clinical research.

F Series: The Fellowship or "F Series" provides advanced training to those in biomedical and behavioral research and supports scientists who wish to make changes in the direction of their research careers or who wish to broaden their scientific background.

R Series:The Research Awards or “R series” includes grants such as the investigator-initiated Research Project (R01) and the Exploratory/Development Grant (R21).
