Visiting Appointments

The Stanford School of Medicine Handbook Online, Chapter 5, contains information and appointment forms for Visiting Appointments (Lecturer, Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor) to the School of Medicine. This appointment is used when a faculty member comes to Stanford and is on leave from another institution for a fixed period of time - minimum of 6 months. This position can be paid or unpaid and appointments can be renewed for one time only.

The Research Policy Handbook, Chapter 9, contains information for Visiting Scholars. This appointment is used for scholars visiting from an outside institution, who hold a Ph.D. or MD, and will be funded by external sources.

This appointment is used for someone who is in industry, business, or Government and maintains their primary responsibilities while they hold this appointment. Appointments are usually for one year and renewable.
