Faculty Positions
Investigators (University Tenure Line, UTL)
This is a full time faculty position that accrues tenure, and University Academic Council membership. Primary emphasis is on scholarship, but teaching and clinical care (in clinical departments) are also important. Ranks are Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, with tenure usually conferred at the Associate Professor rank.
Clinician Investigators (Medical Center Line, MCL)
This is a full time faculty position that does not accrue tenure. Its emphasis is on clinical care and teaching, with some scholarship also expected. Appointments are at a specific primary institution, such as SUH or the VA.
Investigators (Research Line)
This is a full time faculty position that does not accrue tenure and is coterminous with funding. Its emphasis is research, and teaching and clinical care or limited.
Educators (Teaching Line)
This is a full time faculty position that does not accrue tenure. It is used when the primary focus is on teaching.
