Department of Medicine Resource Guide (DOMRG)

Adjunct Clinical Faculty (ACF)

Adjunct Clinical Faculty (ACF), formerly known as Voluntary Clinical Faculty (VCF) or Voluntary Clinical Educators (VCE), are community physicians who volunteer their time in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, attending, patient admissions, research, and/or other activities that support the Department and School.

Physicians on staff at affiliated institutions, e.g., Palo Alto VA, Kaiser, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Willow Clinic, San Jose Medical Center, were previously designated as VCF. However, recent changes have moved these physicians into an unpaid Clinician/Educator (Affiliated) line. They will be designated as Affiliated Clinician/Educators, rather than ACF, and will follow the appointment, reappointment and promotion process of Clinician/Educators (Affiliated).

The Department of Medicine has reconstituted a Departmental Appointments, Reappointments and Promotions Committee (A&P) to review criteria, qualifications, and all appointments of all ACF. You can download the most recent departmental guidelines for ACF documentation requirements, as well as a sample activity report, below. You will notice that the checklists below are specific to our department, and ask for more documentation than what the Dean's office requires; these are requirements based on the Departmental A&P Committee's needs.
